Truro City play their first game of pre-season tonight (Tuesday) with a trip to The Mill to face Torpoint Athletic.
It will the first chance new Tinners boss John Askey has to run the rule over his squad and a number of trialists, in a match environment.
If selected, Dan Lavercombe will don a City shirt for the first time after his free transfer move from Taunton Town last month.
There could also be a second coming for Sam Sanders as a Truro player with the centre half, who played on loan for Truro last term, making a permanent switch to the Duchy from Step One outfit York City.
Sanders was Askey’s first signing as City boss and the former Nottingham Forest youngster has also played under the Truro Sports Hub chief whilst with the Minstermen.
In Opposition
Torpoint Athletic ply their trade in the Western League Premier Division which is Step Five of the National League System.
The forthcoming campaign, 2024-25, will be Torpoint’s third in the Western League after they won promotion from the South West Peninsula League in 2022.
And after two solid mid-table finishes of 12th and 10th respectively, former boss Dean Cardew decided to step down, quickly replaced by Ryan Fice.
Cardew’s right-hand man since the summer of 2021, Fice joined the coaching staff at The Mill after he was dismissed by St Blazey, just three games into 21/22.
With a point to prove without doubt as a manager, Fice has already been busy in the transfer market as free-scoring striker Ryan Richards has departed, with Luke Cloke joining from St Blazey.
Along with Cloke, there have also been two notable incomings from Blazey over the summer as midfielder Lewis Vooght and defender Matt Edwards have also linked up with old boss Fice.
