Truro City’s pre-season campaign continues this evening (Friday) when the side travel across the border to face Southern League Division One South side Willand Rovers.

John Askey’s side began pre-season in confident fashion on Tuesday evening with a 6-0 triumph over fellow Cornish outfit Torpoint Athletic.

Striker Andrew Neal scored half of the Tinners’ tally with two of his goals coming from the penalty spot. Will Dean and Ryan Law were also on target in a dominant opening 45 minutes.

After the break, with City making nine substitutions and fielding five trialists, with one of those players looking to impress Askey completing the scoring after 56 minutes at the Mill.

Tonight’s clash at Silver Street is certain to bring new challenges to City’s friendly schedule ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, due to Rovers sitting one level higher than Torpoint in the National League System.

In Opposition

Willand boss David Searle has strengthened his squad that finished 14th in the Southern League Division South standings, with the capture of two former City old boys.

Defender Jamie Richards, a former Truro captain, and midfielder River Allen have both moved to Silver Street from Rovers’ Devon rivals Tiverton Town.

And both players made their Willand bow in a home friendly reverse at the hands of Western League Premier side Brixham on July 6.

Searle’s troops were due to face Ottery St Mary on Wednesday, but owing to what Willand described as a ‘communication issue’ that game did not take place.
