City are back on the road this evening when they travel to Wiltshire, with newly promoted Salisbury the opposition in National League South – 7.45pm.
John Askey’s side will be searching for back-to-back away wins after a magnificent 2-1 triumph over much-fancied Maidstone United on Saturday.
The away side were thoroughly deserving of a maiden three points in 24-25 and led 1-0 at half time thanks to Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain’s goal.
Further chances to extended the lead passed Truro by and with time ticking down, a failure to score again looked like it would come back to haunt Askey’s charges.
Reiss Greenidge’s fortunate strike levelled the scores but into the final minute of normal time, Jaze Kabia forced the ball over the line and City were triumphant.
In Opposition
Salisbury, just nine years on from reforming after their previous incarnation was liquidated, are back at Step Two after winning the Southern League play-off final with victory over AFC Totton in May.
Therefore, Brian Dutton’s Whites find themselves in the same position as Truro found themselves in 12 months ago: newly promoted and trying to establish themselves in a very competitive National League South division.
But just like City in the summer of 2023, Salisbury have started well after a very credible 2-2 draw against Hemel Hempstead with 10-men.
Last time out, Salisbury were 1-0 winners over Slough Town thanks to a second half penalty conversion from Josh Hedges.
Last Time We Met
City last faced Salisbury during the promotion winning 2022-23 campaign with Truro victorious in both games.
The Tinners secured a 3-1 away victory at the Ray Mac with former home favourite Ben Adelsbury one of the visitors’ marksmen.
And the return fixture, later in the campaign, saw Truro prevail 4-0 with Tyler Harvey, Harvey Greenslade, Dan Sullivan and Will Dean finding the mark.
Sir John’s Thoughts
“Salisbury have started the season well and are undefeated. I’m sure they would have taken that from two games and they will be confident.
“But after we went to Maidstone and got a result, our players are going to be confident too and I am looking forward to a good game.
“The result against Maidstone is just what we needed and it has really got us going. If you can go to Maidstone and get a result then whoever we play, if we are at it, we are more than capable of competing with anyone in the league.
“That is where our confidence should come from, but we don’t want to get carried away at this early stage in the season.
If we apply to same attitude against Salisbury and get a result then that’s great, but if we don’t we go onto the next one.
“We know that every game at this level is tough so we will be on our guard at Salisbury, to ensure we aren’t caught cold, just because we beat Maidstone.”
