For a third consecutive Saturday, Truro City are in action on home soil when the Tinners welcome Eastbourne Borough to the Duchy – 3.00pm.

City go into the game in relatively unchartered waters after the side were defeated 1-0 by Bath on Tuesday evening.

Thus meaning that for the first time since the opening day, Truro arrive at the TCS on the back a defeat. But just like they did after the Dorking reverse, City will be hoping that defeat inspires a positive result.

Last month, the side lowered the colours of Maidstone United after being sunk by the Wands, although they face a stern test as sixth placed Sports are the opposition.

The East Sussex outfit sit one place above Truro in the standings and have been defeated just once so far this term.

In Opposition

After narrowly avoiding relegation last term, Eastbourne have started the 2024-25 campaign in positive fashion and they are currently nestled in the play-off places, along with Truro.

Adam Murray’s charges are currently unbeaten at Priory Lane having played four matches. Enfield Town (1-0) and Aveley (2-1) have been defeated whilst the side have been held by Cheshum United (1-1) and Dorking Wanderers (2-2).

On the road, Murray, who replaced Mark Beard in January of this year, has guided his troops to a brace of victories and one defeat. Hornchurch and basement dwellers Weymouth were both beaten 1-0 with Sports’ only blemish coming in the shape of a 2-0 reverse at Farnborough.

Last Time We Met

City faced Sports twice at ‘home’ last season, but due to a serious injury suffered by visiting player Alex Finney, the first staging of the game was abandoned after 58 minutes, with the score at 0-0.

Unsurprisingly, despite City’s hectic end of season schedule, the National League ordered the game to be restaged and just 48 hours after losing 2-1 to Torquay, Truro hosted Eastbourne at Gloucester’s Meadow Park.

In a drab affair, neither side managed to carve out a genuine goalscoring opportunity and the game finished 0-0.

Just. a day later, Truro were back in action against Yeovil and a side with 10 changes, went down to a 2-0 reverse as the Glovers were crowned champions.

Sir John’s Thoughts

“Hopefully we can learn from Tuesday night and move on quickly because we made things difficult for ourselves by conceding just before half-time.

“Although we went to Bath and restricted them to just a handful of opportunities, we must do better and we have a great opportunity today.

“If we win our home games, it puts us in a great position come the end of the season and apart from the opening day against Dorking, we have kept that home record very much intact with some good wins.

“We have had a good look at things after the Bath defeat and it could give other lads an opportunity because if you keep winning, those opportunities don’t arise.

“The players know there is real competition for places now and losing a game does open it up for other people.”
