Boss John Askey hailed the ‘guts and determination’ from his Truro City players after they defeated Aveley 2-1 in their latest National League South outing.
The Tinners found the going tough against second bottom Aveley during the opening stanza, with home custodian Dan Lavercombe tipping Razzaq Coleman De Graft’s shot onto the crossbar.
And after the turnaround, despite improving considerably, City fell behind when Brooklyn Kabongolo headed home substitute Jaxon Brown’s free-kick.
But Truro hit back and two long throws from Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain resulted in goals for Tyler Harvey and Tom Harrison as Askey’s troops moved up to third in the table.
“It was tough and it was difficult to play even with no wind,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “Nobody really looked comfortable on the ball but we kept at it, even though we went a goal behind.
Full credit to the players because they showed guts and determination to get the win as this is an important time for us.
“We have got some winnable games on paper coming up and if we can get a head of steam up in the next three or four games, it will set us up nicely and push us towards the top of the table.
“We have to concentrate on ourselves and playing better than we did against Aveley, but we are winning and that is the main thing. You have to find ways to win when you are not at your best and we managed to do that against Aveley.
“Teams have (difficult) spells in seasons and we did win against Aveley and we are still up near the top so I can’t be too critical.”
