The Match
City host Aveley at the Truro City Stadium tomorrow (Saturday), looking for a second consecutive victory in the Duchy.
Last time out at the TCS, Truro left it last once more in defeating Hornchurch thanks to Rocky Neal’s injury-time strike. Billy Palfrey had put the Tinners ahead eight minutes from time, only for Darren McQueen to level.
But Neal snatched victory for City – the side’s seventh stoppage time goal so far this term, yielding 12 points.
In the Tinners’ most recent game, the side travelled to Eastbourne Borough and picked up a battling 0-0 draw against Sports. Truro had the best of the game’s chances with Tom Harrison hitting the post and Tyler Harvey forcing a fine low save from home custodian Joe Wright.
Eastbourne were in action during mid-week and they defeated nine-man Tonbridge 2-0 on the road to leapfrog City and move up to third in the Vanarama National League South standings.
In Opposition
Aveley arrive in Cornwall currently occupying 23rd place in the table and very much in a battle to retain their Step Three status.
However, the Millers will be looking to draw inspiration from a brilliant second half to last term when they snuck into the play-offs just 12 months after winning promotion from the Isthmian League.
Despite the Essex outfit struggling to replicate their 2023-24 form, they have stuck with manager Danny Scopes and last time out, Aveley defeated Chesham United 1-0 at Parkside.
But it has been the Millers’ away form that is the root cause of their struggles, with just four points picked up from a possible 48 so far this term – one win and one draw.
Aveley’s only win came at below strugglers Enfield Town (4-2) while their solitary point was at Plainmoor when they held Torquay United to a 1-1 draw in August.
