The Match

Truro begin the second calendar month of 2025 with a mouthwatering home clash against Bath City – 3.00pm.

The Romans, a big hitter of non-league football and a long-standing member of National League South, make a first ever trip to the Truro City Stadium, looking to continue their upturn in fortunes under new boss Darren Way, who replaced former manager Jerry Gill in December.

For City, who occupy seventh place in the standings, a win could hoist the Tinners back into second, with the promotion run in looking like it will be one of the most exciting ever seen in non-league football.

Last time out, Truro were defeated on the road by Hemel Hempstead Town with the Tudors prevailing 3-0 at Vauxhall Road.

A first half brace from winger Brandon Barzey put the hosts in control with the victory completed late on when Joe White headed home. However, City had more than enough chances in the match with Rocky Neal (pictured below) striking the woodwork, while Dom Johnson-Fisher and Jamil Roberts went close as time ticked down.

Tyler Harvey (hamstring), Dan Rooney (ankle) and Ryan Law (knee) were also unavailable last Saturday and like Oxlade-Chamberlain, they will be assessed by the club’s medical staff before a decision in made on their respective involvement.

Will Dean is one player who is out as he serves the second of a two-game suspension. He will return for next week’s trip to in-form Hampton & Richmond.

John Askey Pre-Match

City boss John Askey spoke to the club’s media team ahead of today’s game:

In Opposition

After securing a play-off spot last term, the Romans were defeated 1-0 by Maidstone and their quest to secure a place back at Step One for the first time in over a decade ended.

And it could be argued, with some justification, that the hangover from a disappointing end to 23-24 lingered around Twerton Park into this current campaign.

Key players departing for pastures new, which included Cody Cooke and Dan Hayfield (Torquay) and midfielder Tom Smith (Taunton) meant then manager Jerry Gill had to embark on something of a rebuild.

And with mixed results, Gill left the club just before the festive period with the Romans languishing towards the lower echelons of National League South.

Darren Way was appointed as Gill’s successor on December 23 and a run over Christmas saw wins over Chippenham (3-0) and Farnborough (1-0). The only defeat of Way’s reign so far came on the road to Dorking whilst the Romans’ last two games have resulted in 1-1 draws against Enfield and Chesham respectively.

Last Time We Met

Sol Wanja-Smith’s goal in the first half saw Bath prevail 1-0 although home custodian Harvey Wiles-Richards delivered a stunning performance to deny Truro at least a share of the spoils.
