As a striker himself, it was no surprise that former Truro City manager Steve Massey had an eye for a goalscorer, with Steve Wherry no exception to that particular rule.

During Masey’s first spell as City boss, he signed Wherry, who was an apprentice at Bristol City, whilst also playing for Illogan RBL, Redruth United and Penryn Athletic.

The 1992-93 campaign, with Wherry leading the line, saw City complete a South Western League & Cup double.

Wherry scored 217 goals as a City player, winning a total of three South Western League championships. He was the first City player to pass 200 goals whilst representing Truro and his record of 171 league goals still stands to this day.

Of the two Cornwall Senior Cups won whilst Wherry was a City player, he scored in the final replay against Porthleven in 1997-98, as Truro were 3-2 winners.

Steve will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame before the Good Friday game against Torquay United.
