Truro City is delighted to announce that Dan Rooney has agreed a new contract with the club, ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The 26-year-old made 34 appearances for the Tinners last term and after shaking off a mid-season ankle problem, was a key part of Truro’s end of campaign run, which resulted in promotion to Step 1.
Rooney began his career at Plymouth Argyle and joined Truro on loan during 2018-19. A brief spell at Bath City ensued before Rooney was a Tinner once more for 19-20, which was ended by the covid-19 pandemic.
He left Truro for Plymouth Parkway in the summer of 2022, but after just one year at Bolitho Park, was back with City and after his contract expired last month, has agreed fresh terms with the Tinners.
“For me it was a no brainer to sign on,” Rooney told trurocity.co.uk. “I had been asking questions during the last couple of months of the season because I knew where I wanted to be, and that is here.
“The last couple of months of the season, I hit some form as I found my position and at the moment, I am absolutely buzzing.”
On his contract being up before re-signing, Rooney added: “There is always pressure when your contract is up. But I felt confident I would get a new deal, even though getting promoted means we are going full-time.
“I didn’t really know what was going to happen, but I spoke to the gaffer (manager John Askey) and Yetts (assistant manager Stewart Yetton) and they reassured me about what the plan was going to be.
“Talking about the pressure though, I think some players play better under pressure and the way things were going, with us winning games, always in the top three, it wasn’t always on my mind.
“The opportunity to become a professional full-time footballer again is an opportunity that not many people get. Leaving my job and going back into full-time football is a risk, but when I weighed things up, there were lots of pros and no cons.”
