Seventy-six days after being crowned National League South champions, Truro City return to action this evening (Friday) with an away pre-season friendly against Tavistock – 7.30pm.
The Langsford Park clash is the first of five friendly matches City will play, as the side prepare for their opening National League fixture away to Wealdstone on Saturday, August 9.
After facing the Lambs, City host SkyBet League 1 outfit Plymouth Argyle in a sold out TCS fixture next Wednesday, with Falmouth Town also visiting TR4 three days later, as two fierce Cornish rivals battle for the Aubrey Wilkes Trophy.
Two weeks today, John Askey takes his side to Ladysmead to face Tiverton Town, with the curtain brought down on the side’s pre-season schedule on Saturday, August 2, with an away match against former temporary landlords Plymouth Parkway.
In Opposition
It is a case of second time lucky for City when travelling to Langsford Park.
The two teams were due to face off 12 months ago in a friendly, but wet weather saw the Lambs’ home pitch deemed waterlogged and the match was not rearranged.
This time round, though, with the country in the midst of a heatwave, we are anticipating absolutely no issues of that kind this evening!
Whatever the conditions, Tavistock will provide a stern test for City first up in their friendly campaign, with long-serving boss Stuart Henderson (pictured below) once again ensuring the Devonians remained at Step Four last term.
Tavvy finished 16th in the table, which was the side’s lowest position since winning promotion from the Western League in 2022. Henderson will lead his side without their star striker in Liam Prynne, who has joined divisional rivals Mousehole after a number of goal-laden seasons at Langsford Park.

Food & Refreshments
Tavistock are once again in control of their clubhouse, with the Lambs urging all City supporters to use their well-appointed facilities at Langsford Park.
The clubhouse serves alcoholic and soft drinks, whilst food will be available inside the stadium, with standard hot options on offer.
Langsford Park
Most of the ground is open, although in front of the clubhouse, two small seated stands straddle the half way line.
However, given the weather conditions currently, we would expect most fans to stand in the open and enjoy the fine summer sun.
Once inside the stadium, fans are free to watch the game from any chosen vantage point.
There is a limited amount of parking at the ground and once that it is full, fans are asked to use the sports centre, which is in close proximity to the Lambs’ home.
