Truro City will pay its respects to the fallen before tomorrow’s home match against Altrincham – 3.00pm.
Given the close proximity to Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, the club will be joining the wider football community and society in general in remembering the service and ultimate sacrifice of the Armed Forces from both Britain and the wider Commonwealth too.
The players will wear match shirts carrying a commemorative poppy while serving members of the armed forces from RNAS Culdrose will be collecting on behalf of the Helston Poppy Appeal.
The two teams will be led onto the pitch by WO1 Mark Swift and CPO Matthew Williams, who will carry and lay commemorative wreathes.
We will be asking all spectators to fall silent before kick-off as the traditional remembrance poem ‘For the Fallen’ is read, before the playing of ‘The Last Post’ by Jacqui Peters.
These poignant moments have become synonymous with football and how it marks Remembrance and we thank One and All in attendance for ensuring that Truro City continue this here in Cornwall.
