Match Overview
Truro City make the trip to Gloucestershire tomorrow (Tuesday) evening as they face Forest Green Rovers at the New Lawn – 7.45pm, writes Ronan Tregoning.
The Tinners head into the midweek fixture looking to build upon a huge three points on Boxing Day last time out, as John Askey’s side continue to search for a first away win amid a difficult run of National League fixtures.
Despite recent setbacks, City have shown throughout the campaign that they are capable of competing with their opposition, and will be eager to put in a resilient performance on the road against one of the division’s most in-form sides.
Tuesday’s contest presents another stern test for Truro, who will be hoping to build on the positive elements of their recent displays and translate them into points. With the season entering a busy period, maintaining belief and momentum will be key as City look to climb the table and gain points away from home.
Forest Green Rovers come into the fixture with ambitions of pushing back towards the upper reaches of the National League following their relegation from the EFL in 2024 and failed play-off bid last term. Robbie Savage’s side have shown continued flashes of their quality this term and will view Tuesday night as an opportunity to continue building rhythm and pressure on the teams above them.
With Truro aiming to frustrate and Forest Green keen to impose themselves at home, the midweek clash promises a competitive encounter under the lights at the New Lawn.
Opposition View
Forest Green Rovers head into Tuesday’s fixture as one of the more established names in the National League, following relegation from League Two in 2024. The Gloucestershire side have been among the high-flying teams this campaign, harbouring ambitions of returning to the Football League at the second time of asking.
The appointment of Robbie Savage has brought a new dynamic to The New Lawn. Still early in his managerial career, Savage has overseen a period of transition, blending experienced professionals with emerging talent. Forest Green have shown glimpses of quality this season and will be looking to maintain momentum as they push for promotion.
One of the key players to watch is winger Kyle McAllister. Operating primarily on the flanks, the Scotsman brings pace, creativity and a willingness to take on defenders which has led to his 11 goal involvements so far this season. His direct running and delivery into the box make him a constant threat in attack, capable of influencing games at crucial moments.
With home advantage and a squad containing players with Football League experience, Forest Green will be aiming to impose themselves, but Truro will hope to remain disciplined and organised to limit McAllister’s impact and frustrate their high-flying hosts.
Tale of the Tape
This is the first time City have faced Rovers in a league fixture, locking horns previously in the FA Trophy.
The return fixture between the two sides will take place at the Truro City Stadium Monday April 6, 2026, for the traditional Easter Monday game.
Connections
A notable individual link between Truro City and Forest Green Rovers can be found in the career of goalkeeper James Hamon, whose time at both clubs reflects key stages of his development within the English game.
Hamon joined Forest Green Rovers in 2019 from Exeter City, stepping into a full-time professional environment at the New Lawn as the club continued its rise through the Football League.
Although opportunities in competitive fixtures were limited, his spell in Gloucestershire proved an important learning period, exposing him to the standards, intensity and expectations required at EFL level. Training within a promotion-driven setup helped shape Hamon’s game and provided experience that would later underpin his consistency elsewhere.
Later in 2019, Hamon signed for Truro City, where he went on to enjoy an extended and influential spell in Cornwall. Over the course of several seasons, he established himself as a first-choice goalkeeper and a central figure during a period of transition and progress for the Tinners.
His reliability, shot-stopping and leadership from the back made him a key component of Truro’s side as the club navigated life into the National League South as well as playing a key role in keeping City in the division.
Hamon’s time with Truro came to an end at the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign, when he departed to join Torquay United, who compete in the National League South.
