Boss John Askey is relishing the opportunity of his Truro City side locking horns with National League South leaders Farnborough tomorrow.

The Tinners eased struggling Hampton & Richmond aside at the TCS on Saturday with goals from leading scorer Tyler Harvey (2) and Connor Riley-Lowe’s first of the campaign.

Victory lifted City into second place, with Farnborough keeping hold of top spot after a 2-1 victory on the road at Chelmsford City.

“Going to second is really pleasing,” Askey said. “Farnborough will be one of the tougher teams in the league because they are top, so it won’t be easy.

“We will go there full of confidence and top playing second, there should be a decent crowd.

“It is good playing in games like this and we know we have just got to keep doing what we are doing. We have played well in every game bar the one in the FA Cup.

“Every league game we have been in and I think we could have won all of them. It will be tough on Tuesday, but it is a game we are looking forward to.

“October is a tough month because all the teams we are playing are all up there. If we can come out of October in and around the top, it would have been a good month.”

Looking back at City’s win over the Beavers, Askey, who led York City to National League North promotion in 2022, hailed the collective performance from his charges, as they looked potent going forward, whilst watertight at the back.

“It was a really good team performance and everybody pulled their weight,” he added. “To come away with another win is very pleasing and to not concede as well.

“We looked the most likely in the first half and they didn’t create hardly anything, but the final ball was perhaps letting us down.

“I wasn’t too disappointed at half time and I just said to the players to up it a bit and we would have a great chance.

“I did worry that they might snatch one and it could have been one of those games that go away from us. Tyler scores with a good header and they had to change the way they play. We capitalised on that and it was nice to see Connor score, along with Tyler getting two.”
