Legend, a grossly overused term in football and the wider sporting world.

But for Stewart Yetton, this overworked expression is absolutely fitting when reflecting on his association with Truro City.

Born in Plymouth, Yetton came through the ranks at Argyle and he made a handful of appearances for the Pilgrims, when they were on an upward trajectory 20 years ago under Paul Sturrock.

To try and secure first team football, Yetton had a spell on trial with Scottish outfit St Mirren, before he joined Tiverton Town.

He caught the eye of then City boss Steve Massey whilst at Ladysmead, who then secured the services of Yetton in late 2005 and the rest, as the saying goes, is history.

Yetton hit the net an astonishing 72 times in his first full season with City (2006-07) as the side won the second of four consecutive promotions, whilst also lifting the FA Vase at Wembley after a 3-1 win over AFC Totton.

Yetton was instrumental in City’s rise up the non-league pyramid, but he left the club in 2013 to join Weymouth, where he also became a cult hero.

Spells with Tiverton Town and Plymouth Parkway followed after he departed the Bob Lucas Stadium before moving back to Truro in 2019, to take a player/assistant manager role.

Yetton is the club’s all-time record goalscorer with 219 goals.
