Boss John Askey revealed that Tiverton Town will be an unknown quantity for his Truro City side in tonight’s away friendly – 7.30pm.
However, the Tinners chief feels that whatever the opposition, this latest pre-season clash, City’s fourth of five ahead of the new term, will be ‘a very good workout’ for his troops.
Last time out, Truro defeated Falmouth Town 2-0 to retain the Aubrey Wilkes Trophy, but Askey wants more from his side after admitting ‘there was something missing’ against City’s long-term local rivals.
“I don’t know what to expect from Tiverton to be honest, other than it being a very good workout for the players,” Askey told trurocity.co.uk.
“We will want to put a good shift in as I thought last Saturday, against Falmouth, there was something missing and we weren’t quite sharp enough.
“Hopefully on Friday, we get as much out of the game as possible after I was hard on the players after Falmouth, because we played so well against Plymouth Argyle.
“There was a big atmosphere feel about the Plymouth game so it was always going to be hard to replicate that against Falmouth, but we have had a week’s worth of training, with everyone competing to get a starting berth, come the start of the season.
“Now that we are full-time, it is very important to make the most of the time we have with the players, but as we keep saying, pre-season is just that.
“We are looking towards that first game at Wealdstone, with everybody available to pick from.”
Zac Bell, Dan Rooney and Harry Kite all sat out the Falmouth victory and Askey revealed post game, after his side’s victory, that this was a precaution.
But the 60-year-old, who led City to the National League South title last year, says that all three players will feature against Tiverton.
That just leaves knee injury victim Tom Harrison on the sidelines, although the former Bristol City academy graduate is progressing well and has stepped up his training regime since pre-season began.
When asked about the availability of Bell, Rooney and KIte, Askey added: “They are all back training and we will see how they feel, before deciding how much involvement they will have. We want everybody at a certain level and we are aware of how many minutes everyone has played so far.
“The aim is everyone being fully fit for the start of the season.”
